NEW YORK, NY (SNN-TV) – Hockey is back! And Mika Zibanejad helped the New York Rangers get the new season off to a winning start, only for it to be at the Lightning’s expense.

Zibanejad scored twice, including a tiebreaking power-play goal in the third period, and the Rangers beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-1 last night. Barclay Goodrow also scored and reigning Vezina Trophy winner Igor Shesterkin stopped 26 shots to help the Rangers start the season with a win against the Lightning team that eliminated them from Eastern Conference final in June.

Steven Stamkos scored the lone power-play goal for the Lightning and Andrei Vasilevskiy had 36 saves. All-time the Lightning fall to 4-5-0 when beginning the season on the road.

Up next for Tampa, they’re head to Columbus on Friday night to continue a three-game trip to start the season. The Lightning’s first home game is set for this Tuesday at 8pm at Amalie Arena, against the Philadelphia Flyers.
