BRADENTON – Visible Men Academy is holding its first annual fine art show with the help of a globally recognized artist.
While many schools incorporate art into their curriculum, Visible Men Academy is bringing art alive
“This is just another way of building out their character, because they see more examples, they see more role models they see all the opportunities, not just in math and science but they see a full range of opportunities that they can take advantage of,” said Co-Founder & CEO of Visible Men Academy, Louis Parker.
To continue fostering the success of their students, VMA academy, a public charter school in Bradenton is incorporating STREAM, Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art and Math, into their curriculum however funding efforts are vital to help support the program.
“Florida happens to be number 44 out of 50 in states for funding of students and that funding brings in less of 50 percent of our operating expenses,” said Parker.
The VMA fine art show will display artist, Leroy Campbell artworks, to help raise funds as a portion of the sales will be donated to support the efforts of the academy, all while teaching the students.
“Our students here will get to see the artist, and also see the role model and the possibilities are in the education of arts and what they can become at that area,” said Parker.
Gullah Artist, Leroy Campbell says one of his goals is to share wisdom through his art
“That’s one of the things that I want people to see when they look at my work, is that I’m actually telling stories about myself, celebrating my community and trying to get people to celebrate their community and tell their own stories because everybody has a story to tell,” said Artist, Leroy Campbell.
While inspiring and motivating those who view his art
“That’s the purpose for it, and every artist brings that to the viewer and when we can get them that young, nobody could pay me enough money for that, that’s priceless,” said Campbell.
