SARASOTA – U.S. officials are warning of potential cyber attacks amid Russia’s attack on Ukraine.
“When you think about, why I care on the other side of the world, the issue is that most of those cyber-attacks are indiscriminate, it doesn’t really care if it’s just targeting Ukraine, it’s going to affect everybody everywhere,” said Managing Director of Cyber Leadership and Strategy Solutions, Keyaan Williams.
In response, The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency has alerted every organization no matter how large or small to ‘shield up’ and be prepared to respond.
Updating software, thinking before clicking and the use of strong passwords are recommended by the CISA to every individual to protect themselves online
“Sarasota, if you are a business owner or a consumer, you still want to take to heart those recommendations about multi-factor authentication and the other security controls because they help reduce the likelihood that you are going to have a problem and it helps reduce the likelihood that something is going to go wrong,” said Williams.
For consumers, Multi-factor authentication could help cut down on fraud and misrepresentation and on the business side…
“Is going to keep the hackers out of your systems, help people getting into your financial systems, your customer list, or doing something else that could cause harm to your business,” said Williams.
CISA encourages suspected cyber-attacks to be reported quickly, as the information could be used to render assistance and issue warnings to others.
“The cost to prevent a data breach is significantly lower than the cost to respond,” said Williams.
