U.S. DOJ investigating PGA Tour

ST. ANDREWS, SCOTLAND (SNN-TV) – The PGA confirmed today that it’s being investigated by the U.S. Justice Department.

A PGA Spokesman says the probe is over potential anti-trust violations in connection with LIV Golf.

LIV Golf is backed by Saudi Arabia’s public investment fund and the golfers who took part in its controversial golf invitational series were suspended from future PGA Tours.

Last month LIV Golf issued a statement saying the PGA’s move was quote “vindictive.” PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan says his institution can’t compete with what he called “a foreign monarchy that is spending billions of dollars in an attempt to buy the game of golf.”

LIV Golf and the Justice Department have yet to comment, but Tiger Woods had some choice words for LIV Golf’s CEO Greg Norman earlier today.

“I know Greg tried to do this back in the early ’90s. It didn’t work then and he’s trying to make it work now. And I still don’t see how that’s in the best interests of the game.”

Woods tees off on Thursday morning at the 150th Saint Andrews Open in Scotland.
