SARASOTA – The chilling desperate cries of a mother, whose 10 month old infant had accidentally fallen into the family pool, leaving the baby with no pulse.

Now two Sarasota County deputies are this families lifesaving heroes.

“We’re not going to give up, especially on a child, any human I mean it’s not in our nature to give up on them, if there’s a shot we’re going to keep going,” said Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office Deputy, Mike Nickerson.

Deputy, Mike Nickerson was the first to arrive on scene that day, where he performed CPR on baby Charlee, and later transported her into an ambulance where he and his partner Tony Egoville, continued CPR

“I’ve never done that long of CPR on anybody in my career and I guarantee Egoville hasn’t either,” said Nickerson.

Baby Charlee was transported to John Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg where she was intubated for 10 days.

“Cutest kid known to man, I talked to mom today on the phone and mom said I want you to be part of her life, she goes, without you guys she wouldn’t be here and it’s good to know that people still actually care about us and respect us,” said Nickerson.

Deputy Nickerson dropped off a few Christmas presents for baby Charlee and her sister, and as if she knew him, greeted the deputy with a big hug

“Kids mean a lot and it’s a big difference, I don’t know why but it just is, I mean every human is the same but a kid is just more emotional  and especially having kids of my own it hits you hard,” said Nickerson.
