SUWANEE, GA (SNN-TV) – Jackson State University’s football team is going to have a happy New Year.
Travis Hunter has decided to suit up for the Tigers. The 6’1 cornerback is the number one recruit in the nation, according to Rivals.com.
Hunter tossed out hats from three other schools, including his original commitment, Florida State, before revealing the Jackson State t-shirt he was wearing.
Hunter says this is an exciting time for him, but also an important step in history. “First I want to thank Florida State for giving me the opportunity to come in and be part of the program. But also, I got a once in a lifetime chance to play for one of the greats. But also, I got a chance to make a change in history. I mean, me being the first recruit to go to an HBCU is real good for me.”
Hunter’s high school, Collins Hill, is in the Atlanta suburb of Suwanee, and just won the Georgia Class 7A State Championship.
