SARASOTA – Three major organizations teamed up to host the mother of all food drive collections.
“We are partnering with the Van Wezel and Mayor’s Feed the Hungry for a food drive to fill this amazing refrigerated truck,” said President of Impact 100 SRQ, Jane Watt.
Recently, Mayor’s became one of the recipients of a very large grant from Impact100SRQ.
So, what did they use the money for? Well, an enormous refrigerated food truck which opened up the possibility of donating perishable food items.
“So that they could reach more people in need right here in our community, providing them with meats, and chesses and dairies and fresh perishable items so that people in need can have healthy options,” said Watt.
Watt says there are several needs across the Suncoast
“There are thousands of individuals and families in need of the basic essentials as food, including their pets, more than 70 percent of the families that need food also have no way of feeding their animals so this is vital at this time and our community coming together for greater good is more important not than ever,” Watt.
Executive Director of the Van Wezel, Mary Bensel says the coming together and donations received shows what supporting one another is all about
“I see friends, and I see neighbors out here and everybody that can has got to help these organizations, and sometimes it can be as simple as cash, but food is very important at this time when more people than ever are out of work and need that food for their children it’s just so important,” said Executive Director of the Van Wezel, Mary Bensel.
