PINELLAS COUNTY (SNN TV) – Thousands of runners filled the roads on the Skyway Sunday morning.

Northbound lanes on I-275 were closed from 3:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. The 1st place runner was a 35-year-old Bradenton man Ian Walsh who completed his run in nearly 32 minutes. The fastest woman in the race was 36-year-old Saint Pete resident Abby Torrance, who completed it in 42 minutes.

One of the runners described the race as “off the charts.”

“Where else can you go and they shut down a bridge that connects two counties, a major thoroughfare for the state of Florida?” she says.

This was all for the 6th annual Armed Forces Skyway 10K, benefiting the Armed Forces Families Foundation.

According to their website, the 10K has raised more than $2.6 million for the foundation, saying they’ve contributed 100% of its profits to the mission of funding infrastructure projects that support military families in the U.S.
