SARASOTA – After almost a year of hard work, the City of Sarasota has a new district that looks to add to the uniqueness of the city. The Limelight District stretches between Fruitville Road to 12th Street. Here residents will have a new area to discover the hidden gems of Sarasota.
“We realized that there’s a lot more here going on that people don’t realize, and we were getting a little bit jealous of the attention that other areas in town were getting so we realized that were not branded we need to have our own designation,” said Kim Livengood.
Livengood, President of the Board for the Limelight District, says she wants to transform the neighborhood into a family friendly place where residents can support and shop locally.
“We want people to know about all the things we have to offer here, and we want other business to be able to want to have their businesses here,” said Livengood.
Residents can expect to find a brewery, a bookstore, an indie market and much more. The new Limelight District looks to add its own bazaar twist shopping local on the Suncoast.
“One of the things that sets us apart is that we have so many different local vendors we don’t have any of the big chains here, so you really are supporting local businesses,” said Livengood.
The new district is home to an array of local shops including The Bazaar on Apricot and Lime, Brandt’s Books and JDubs Brewery. Livengood says the Limelight District is expected to grow with the addition of a Wawa and a pickle ball Stadium.
