BRADENTON – Kids from all across Florida are competing in the First Lego League qualifier tournament in Manatee County.

Hundreds of teams participated in the first tournament of the robotics season. The teams were tested on their robotics and computer coding skills. The kids were tasked with first building a robot out of LEGO’s and then using coding to maneuver the robots the fastest through a course completing each task.

“With this program the kids are already excited cause they’re exposed to something they already know, the LEGO factor, in addition to that we’re adding the technology, the engineering, the robotics and I think we’re adding the seed cause they’re enjoying it and they’re engaged,” said Nerida Lafontant with  Suncoast Florida League.

The top nine teams of the qualifier tournament will compete next month in Fort Myers and move on to the states final.
