SARASOTA – Future Leaders of America Inc. has provided guidance to the youth of the Suncoast achieve their dreams and discover their talent.

Founder of the non-profit Divante Watkins says the organization changed their initial mission in order to help their community amid the pandemic.

“We don’t want no family or no families, no children, anybody,” said Watkins. “We don’t want anybody to go hungry.”

Watkins says as a community leader he took it upon himself to give back in the form of Pandemic Care Packages. The now monthly giveaways assist families who need help put food on the table.

“That’s what  it’s all about being there for each other,” said Watkins. “We’re all in this thing together

And being there for each other is just what the nonprofit has done by hosting six care packages giveaways geared to those who may have missed out the large scale food shares by local food banks. And there’s no end in sight for the help Future Leaders has in store.

“We actually have some big things. Like I said we’ll be starting the online virtual classes. We’re getting with local teachers here in the community as far as volunteering,” said Watkins. “Education that’s really important and that’s what it’s all about and that’s who we are, we’re all about education.”

The next Pandemic Care Packages Giveaway is scheduled for Aug 14th from 11:30-3:30 at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Park in Sarasota.

The packages include fresh produce, dairy products and whole grain food items.
