SARASOTA -The Sarasota Farmer’s Market was invaded by members of the Sarasota Opera early Saturday morning.
More than 40 members of the Sarasota Opera Nabucco chorus performed va pensiero in the middle of 2nd street.
The opera chronicles the exile of Hebrews in Babylon amidst a love triangle, revenge and ultimately redemption. Communications Coordinator Lana Mullen says this is a perfect way to showcase the public what is in stored at the Sarasota Opera House.
“Well this year Sarasota Opera is celebrating 60 years of bringing world class opera to the Suncoast,” said Mullen. “We believe that opera is for everyone and we wanted to bring this beautiful gift of music to our community by performing at one of our other favorite places here in Sarasota, the farmers market.”
The opera was first performed on March 9th, 1842 more than 177 years ago. For more information on upcoming opera schedule visit sarasotaopera.org
