More than two dozen BMX racers from around the world and of all ages competed in the Sarasota BMX 2020 SX Series on Saturday. With several sporting events being canceled due to the pandemic the crowd went wild for the return the extreme sport.

“It’s cool that Sarasota has put this event on for us at the moment, they’re making serious by offering the big hill or two,” said BMX rider Joshua McLean. “With no really races anywhere in the world with everything that’s going on, and so one really appreciates it.”

Some of the competitors were as young as five years old. With 34 motos and 165 entries the start of the season looks to be promising.

“I’m super excited to get back out there and race. I’m definitely nervous cause it’s been five months and this is a big track,” said BMX riders Jeremy Smith. “But I’m super thankful to Sarasota BMX that they’re putting on an even and just getting back out there and race.”

The first of four series kicked off on Saturday , the next event is September 11th at the BMX track located on 1590 N Tuttle Ave.
