SARASOTA (SNN-TV) – Sarasota Babe Ruth has made history in having the 13, 14 and 15U teams all headed to play in the Southeast Regional, vying for a national title.
A Suncoast staple since the 1950’s, Sarasota Babe Ruth hopes to capitalize on their history making performance in sweeping the Florida South Babe Ruth State Tournament.
The 14U’s will get first crack at the action, starting tomorrow in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, with the 13 and 15U teams following suit next week in Clemmons and Greenville, North Carolina respectively. Compiling victories over Lakeland Highlands, Lutz, East Lake and Key West en route to their state title, the 14U team led by former big-leaguer and Sarasota High alum, Scooter Gennett, are primed to make a splash in the Volunteer state this week.
A Babe Ruth alum himself, Gennett wants his team to live in the moment, so they can remember this for years to come.
“I just hope, like I said, that they experience it and have fun. Just enjoy it because it’s going to something a little different than they’re used to. I remember playing Babe Ruth when I was there age, they might not know it yet, but they’ll remember this the rest of there life. We’re just trying to give them the best opportunity to have fun and enjoy it.” – Scooter Gennett, Sarasota Babe Ruth 14U Head Coach
