NATIONAL (SNN TV) – National retail experts say this will be a record-breaking back-to-school shopping season.

The Herald-Tribune reports The National Retail Federation has studied back-to-class shopping trends since 2003. Back-to-school spending is expected to reach $41.5 billion this year, up from around $37 billion in 2022 and 2021.

Families with children in elementary through high school are projected to spend an average of $890 on school supplies alone this year.

For the first time, the Florida Legislature established a second tax-free holiday to help parents purchase school items during two breaks in the academic year.

The holidays run from July 24 through August 6 and January 1-14.

Tax-free items include most school supplies, clothing, footwear — as long as they’re less than $100 — computers and related accessories for less than $1,500 dollars, and jigsaw puzzles and learning aids for 30 dollars or less.
