SARASOTA – Suncoast State Representative Margaret Good is running for a U.S. Congressional seat next year, but on Tuesday, her focus was on the upcoming legislative session in Tallahassee. She held a town hall at the Fruitville Public Library. After seeing the great divide in Florida’s capital, she took it upon herself to reach out to her community.
“I believe that everyone on the Suncoast is worried about healthcare, is worried about water quality, is worried about sea level rise and climate change and what we’re going to do address these issues moving into the future,” Good said.
But, it’s more than just slogans and words, for Good. She believes it’s about solving the people’s challenges with an open ear, working hard and doing the right thing.
“Since I was elected, I have held a number of town halls all over the district because I really want to hear what my constituents are concerned with and help with their issues and advocate for the issues of this community in Tallahassee,” Good said.
Supporter, Sofia Lombardi, a student from New College, really appreciates how she connected with everyone tonight.
“She seemed to really care, and make sure to get the feedback that they deserve, even if she wasn’t entirely educated on the specific issue,” Sofia Lombardi said.
With election season in the air, there is a lot of hope for change in the future.
“I really hope that she will bring change to Sarasota as a whole,” Lombardi said. “I don’t believe that money should have the big role that it holds in politics right now and I believe that she’ll really bring a sense of care, rather than working towards big money and big corporations. And, that she’ll really focus on issues like protecting our environment and protecting our schools, and supporting people who need help here.”
Good is running against incumbent Congressman Vern Buchanan in 2020.
