CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. (SNN TV) – A Port Charlotte man was killed after being hit by a car Friday night at 2360 Tamiami Trail.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, at 9:53 p.m a 47-year-old man was crossing the northbound travel lanes of U-S 41 as an SUV was driving north on 41, just south of West Ellicott Circle.

A 71-year-old Port Charlotte woman was driving the SUV with a 7-year-old girl as a passenger.

The woman’s vehicle hit the man, who suffered critical injuries. He was pronounced dead after being transported to Fawcett Hospital.

The crash remains under investigation.
