SARASOTA – The Sarasota Military Academy Prep hosts the first seated volleyball tournament on the Suncoast.

10 teams competed for first place in this unique tournament. Hosted by Operations Patriot Support the tournament brought veterans, active military personnel and civilians for a fun game of volleyball.

The game was inspired by seated volleyball games as part of the Paralympics with the hopes of raising money for veteran programs.

“Our major focus is on veterans wounded, ill, and injured and their families, so not only the physical but the injuries you don’t see,” said Kevin Kenny, board member of Operation Patriot Support. “So all of our events are tailored towards working that, whether it’s at a fundraising capacity or an event like this were you get out an participate and you have a good time.”

Kenny says he is already planning on next year’s tournament and says Saturday’s matches earned an estimated 10 thousand dollars.
