SARASOTA COUNTY (WSNN) – A car crash leaves one person dead in Sarasota County, early Saturday morning.

The single-vehicle fatal crash happened around 1 AM at US 41 and Shoreland Drive. That’s according to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office.

Florida Highway Patrol reports the driver was traveling south on US 41 when it slammed into the guardrail, rolled over and caught on fire. The driver was pronounced dead on scene. The identity of Driver remains under investigation.

All northbound and southbound lanes of U.S. 41 were shut down from Rubens Drive to Shoreland Drive for about five hours.

One lane in each direction has now reopened for traffic. You should travel with caution.
