SARASOTA – Dozens of people attended the annual Sarasota Planned Parenthood fundraiser in downtown Sarasota.
Planned Parenthood of Southwest and Central Florida hosted the event and invited co-author of Notorious RBG Irin Carmon as one of the guest speakers of the night.
Carmon says she was influenced by Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg because of her perseverance and continuing to fight for women’s rights.
“Fun fact Justice Ginsburg is almost 86 years old and she can do 20 pushups. And so one of the messages I take from her life is perseverance,” said Carmon. “When I asked her, ’is it true that you can do 20 pushups?’ She said, ‘Yes but we do ten and then I take a break and do ten more’ So persevering, doing 10 pushups then doing ten more is really one of the lesson I want to impart tonight.”
Carmon says it has been her honor to share Justice Ginsburg story across the country and hopes that Ginsburg fight for women’s right inspires others to continue the fight in their own communities.
