SARASOTA/MANATEE COUNTY (WSNN) – The intruder who inappropriately touched a first-year College student is now behind bars.

New College Campus Police say on August 25th, 30-year-old Jon Cannon of Bradenton trespassed into Dort Residence Hall.

Cannon is now facing a charge of burglary with battery.

Officers were able to track down and identify Cannon through his license plate which was caught on Security Cameras.

“There was no evidence that door was tampered with in anyway,” New College of Florida Police Dept lead investigator and Sgt. John Chirgwin said. “The students said that they absolutely locked the door, and we believe that they locked the door, however, if you don’t push on the door hard enough, it doesn’t close all the way. So I can only speculate that’s what occurred.

Cannon is now at the Manatee County jail.

In the state of Florida, Burglary with battery is a first-degree felony. The sentence for this crime cannot exceed life in prison.
