SARASOTA – Mote’s new Science Education Aquarium is set to open in 2023, however, their facility on city island will remain for research.

Once the aquarium is completed at the new facility at Nathan Benderson Park the animals will all be transferred to the new location. The hospital area will remain on city island to contribute to the research.

“By having the other facility for the aquarium and then opening up space here, it is really going to improve our capacity for the marine science that we need to do, to help our oceans. Bringing in visiting scientists, bringing in technology and entrepreneurs that are in the Marine Science field, it’ll really let us open up the campus for more expansion and more research,” said  Public Relations Manager at Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium, Stephannie Kettle.

After three years of planning, Mote’s new Science Education Aquarium is set to break ground by the end of September.
