SARASOTA – Meals on Wheels helps hundreds across the Suncoast, but now they need your help.
“This year, were struggling and we need the communities help,” said Executive Director of Meals on Wheels Sarasota, Marjorie Broughton.
Meals on Wheels of Sarasota prepares over 800 meals for people in need across the Suncoast who are unable to provide or prepare a meal for themselves in their home. Although the pandemic and food shortages have been a challenge, this year, the non-profit is in desperate need of volunteers
“But also with cash donations so we can continue our work, which is not replaceable by any other non-profit in the Sarasota community,” said Broughton.
With holidays just around the corner, the organization is also in need of items for their annual share the love event
“Remembering that if 82 percent can’t afford nothing towards the cost of their meal, then they have no items for Christmas, and they really need to know that there is a caring community,” said Broughton.
Meals on Wheels is collecting everything from puzzle books and blankets, to nail files and toothpaste. As well as other gifts
“Definitely clothing, clothes for the younger kids, boys and girls and were able to send those out to our clients so that they can participate in the giving process as well,” said Meals on Wheels Sarasota Staff, Marci Boland and Elizabeth Reyes.
“We are in need of any donations you can bring to us, clients are very grateful,” said Reyes.
