QUEENS, NY (SNN-TV) – The New York Mets have three finalists for the team’s managerial vacancy, one being a member of the Rays coaching staff.

Rays bench coach Matt Quatraro along with Buck Showalter and Astros bench coach Joe Espada will meet with team officials, including owner Steve Cohen, in callback interviews this week as the Mets look toward naming Luis Rojas’ successor before Christmas.

Quatraro has spent the past three seasons as Rays bench coach, sitting alongside manager Kevin Cash for two straight AL East-winning teams.

Quatraro’s major league experience also includes a stint as assistant hitting coach in Cleveland under manager Terry Francona.

Espada and Quatraro have also interviewed for the Oakland A’s managing job — the only other managerial vacancy in the majors.

Despite their consideration, Showalter is considered a strong favorite for the Mets job.
