SARASOTA – Hope 4 Communities provides homeless families with everything they need to be ready for school: from physicals, dental exams, and haircuts.
But due to the pandemic Executive Director of the nonprofit Pam Hawn says she wasn’t sure how they’d be able to collect and distribute supplies.
Hawn says they partner with several local churches in the area, but since their services became virtual donations were limited.
However, starting in late July Hope 4 Communities will begin to host events in time for the start of the school year.
“We can’t do medical, dental or hair because of COVID,” said Hawn. “So we have switched to a drive–through model and a few are doing outside events and it’s resourced based only.”
Meaning students who are facing homelessness would get just what they need. “We’re going to make sure the kids get their backpack and their school supplies and their care bag with their hygiene items and their gift cards and food and everything else that we can provide for them,” she says.
Hawn says over the course of four weekends they’ll be helping nearly 2,981 kids on the Suncoast.
