LOS ANGELES, CA (SNN-TV) – Dick Vitale will receive the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance at tonight’s ESPY Awards beginning at 8pm.
The award is given to a person “who has overcome great obstacles through perseverance and determination.” Vitale announced in April that he was cleared to “ring the bell” following his final chemotherapy treatment, signaling that he was cancer-free.
Having been diagnosed with lesions on his vocal chords, doctors urged Vitale into vocal rest for much of the year, with tonight being his first time speaking publicly since being given the “ok” by doctors.
Dickie V’s self-titled documentary will air on ESPN following the ESPYS tonight at 11pm.
