Harold Ramirez leads Rays past Royals in series finale

Harold Ramirez

ST. PETERSBURG (SNN-TV) – In their series finale yesterday with the Royals, the Rays were looking for a gentleman’s sweep, with Ryan Yarbrough on the mound.

Recently returned, Harold Ramirez had three hits and drove in two runs, and the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Kansas City Royals 3-2 yesterday. Ramirez has a hit in all five games, going 9 for 21, since returning last Tuesday from a broken right thumb and is hitting .337 during a resurgent season.

The Rays have won seven of nine, and held opponents to three runs or fewer in eight of their last nine games. Rays starter Ryan Yarbrough gave up two runs and three hits in 4 ? innings during an 82-pitch outing. Shawn Armstrong went 1 1/3 scoreless innings for the win, while Pete Fairbanks worked the ninth to get his fourth save.

Ramirez spoke postgame about relying on consistency coming off on an injury.

“I really just focus every day, every game [on] the same routine. So, I forget about the injury and I want to prepare for the next game. I have the same approach everyday. Some days we hit it hard, some days we hit it slow. That’s part of the game because its hard to hit baseballs.”

The Rays start a four-game home series tonight against the L.A. Angels with Tampa Bay southpaw Jeffrey Springs, facing Angels lefty Tucker Davidson. And for those interested in seeing Angels two-way star Shohei Ohtani, you can, just not on the mound, as he is not scheduled to pitch during the series.
