SARASOTA – The Girls Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida and the Florida Power and Light Company are bringing solar energy to the Suncoast.
FPL unveiled the first of its kind solar canopy instillation in Sarasota early Friday afternoon. The power company partnered with local Girls Scouts to spread the importance of renewable energy.
CEO of Girls Scouts Gulfcoast Florida Mary Ann Servian says this project helps the girls give back to the community.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for us to unveil opportunities to be able to put energy back on the grid and share our natural resources with our neighbors,” said Servian.
The girls also participated in fun hands on science activities to demonstrate how to harness the energy of the sun to power a small hand-held fan. “We’re using our resources wisely by using the energy of the sun and the solar to power our big building back here,” said Faith Gill a Girl Scout.
The 150 foot canopy will be placed at the Girls Scouts headquarter. The goal of the project is to educate residents of the importance of solar energy.
