SARASOTA- More than 100 law enforcement vehicles drove across the state to honor Trooper Joesph Bullock after he was shot and killed on I-95 in Martin County. Bullock grew up in Englewood, graduated from Lemon Bay High School, and his parents still reside in Englewood. Trooper Bullock’s body was escorted from Fort Pierce to Sarasota on Friday.
“You have to remember that this was not a call for service, this was not a man with a gun, this was not an argument, and this was not a domestic,” said FHP Trooper Kenneth Watson. “This was a Florida State Trooper doing what we all do, assisting someone that had a disabled vehicle. There is no way he thought this could have turned the way that it did.”
About a dozen civilians lined Fruitville Road as law enforcement vehicles brought Bullock’s body to the funeral home. Many others gathered along other parts of the route.
“Men and women put their lives on the line every day,” said Trooper Watson. “It’s nice to know that they appreciate it and at a time like this, for everyone to take time out of their busy day and to show respect to Trooper Bullock, it’s incredible.”
Trooper Watson says the support from other law enforcement has been overwhelming.
“They know that we would do the same for them, I hope that day doesn’t come, but we will be here.”
