FLORIDA (SNN TV) – The Florida High School Athletics Association scraps menstrual questions on forms and OKs asking an athlete’s sex at birth.
The FHSAA removed the controversial menstrual questions after a Palm Beach Post investigation. Florida’s previous form asked athletes for their sex and included five optional questions about their menstrual history.
The FHSAA’s sports medicine committee recommended making the questions mandatory. That was overruled on Thursday after 150 public comments were read, the majority in support of removing the questions.
The Herald-Tribune reports the new forms will also ask athletes what sex they were assigned at birth.
The board of directors approved the changes by a 14 to 2 vote.
35 other states ask athletes their menstrual history.
