FLORIDA (SNN TV) – COVID numbers are looking better in Florida as the latest COVID wave recedes.

Big urban areas showed signs of a potential spike in infections recently. However, new data show declines in the coronavirus statewide to levels not seen since May, according to the Herald-Tribune.

Health officials recorded about 23-thousand new infections in the past week statewide, down two-thirds during the worst in June and July.

The CDC no longer recommends indoor masking for most of the state to limit the strain on hospitals.

The only areas in Florida where indoor masking is recommended are outside the Suncoast — in Miami-Dade and a cluster of counties surrounding Alachua.
