SARASOTA – An electrical fire at a nursing home sends one employee to the hospital.
The Sarasota Fire Department responded to reports of a structure fire at the Brookdale Palmer Ranch nursing home.
Battalion Chief Michael Haslem says crews found a stairwell filled with smoke.
The unit floor was evacuated to determine the cause of the fire. One nursing home employee was able to put out the flames but had to be transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.
Chief Haslem says the cause of the fire was a ballast light.
