SARASOTA – ALSO Youth Has Awarded Scholarships Of $500 Dollars to four Students on the Suncoast pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees in the fall.

Criteria for the scholarship include academic achievement, financial need, and leadership and involvement with ALSO Youth, LGBTQ+ advocacy, or with Gender and Sexuality Alliance at their high school or college.

Executive Director at ALSO Youth, James Robinson says this help is vital for those in the LGBTQ+ community on the Suncoast.

“The fight isn’t over, and you could see that just this year with the Florida State Legislature where at the last minute seven legislatures introduced four different bills that we’re really VERY anti–LGBTQ. None of them made it passed committee, but they are still people who are working to take away the rights that the community has worked for years and years to earn.”

Three of the students are from Sarasota County, while one is from Manatee County.
