BRADENTON – A Bradenton hit and run leaves a woman in the hospital.

According to an FHP Spokesman, yesterday at 3:45 pm, a Volkswagon Jetta was driving southbound on 8th Street East approaching 49th Avenue Drive East, while a golf cart was facing southbound and the driver was getting mail from the mailbox.

The front of the Jetta hit the right side of the golf cart and knocked down a palm tree. The Jetta driver fled the scene on foot.

An 80-year-old woman in the golf cart was seriously injured and is being treated at Blake Medical Center.

The Daughter of the woman hit says she had to get surgery.

“Very fortunate that she isn’t worse off,” Donna Motkowicz said. “She had big head gashes and she has a fractured leg that they did surgery on yesterday. She does have an external fixator on right now, and they’ll go back in to do major surgery on Monday to fix that. She’s going to have to do a follow-up on her arm, she has a couple of graphs on her elbow. And, major head wounds that were stitched up, and will have to be followed up, but she is mentally stable. And, nothing showed on the Cat Scan, so we’re very fortunate, because a lot more could have been done, and could have happened to anyone.”

Florida State Troopers say the man who ran was described as a white man in his early 30’s. If you have any information please contact FHPor CrimeStoppers.
