MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. (SNN TV) – Many Suncoast marching bands have something to toot their horn about.
The District 11 Music Performance Assessments for marching band concluded Saturday after bands from Manatee, Sarasota, and Charlotte counties performed their halftime shows for an audience and a panel of judges. The bands were judged on music, visual performance, general effect, auxillary, and percussion.
The annual assessment is not just a learning tool for students and helpful for instructors; it allows band students to watch what the other area bands have also worked on all season, with bands devoting dozens and, in a few cases, hundreds of hours on the seven minutes Suncoast residents see during high school football halftime.
10 of the bands hit the highest average score of ‘Superior.’ Of those 10, eight scored straight superiors in all categories. In Manatee County, straight superiors went to Braden River, Lakewood Ranch, and Parrish Community High. In Sarasota County, Sarasota High, Riverview, North Port, and Venice scored straight superiors. And in Charlotte County, Charlotte High scored straight superiors.
The other two bands who averaged a ‘Superior’ rating were Port Charlotte and Manatee High. Congratulations to all band students for a great season!
