SARASOTA (SNN TV) – A seven-member committee will explore the future of the Van Wezel.
That’s what was decided in a March 6th meeting by the Sarasota City Commission. According to Your Observer, five members will have expertise in specific disciplines, and two will be citizens at-large.
The panel will explore how to re-task the Van Wezel in a way that wouldn’t compete with the Sarasota Performing Arts Center planned for the opposite corner of the parking lot.
For the five members who are to be professionals: one will have expertise in performing arts centers and broader use of large public buildings, one will have expertise in historic preservation, one with expertise in civil and structural engineering, one with financial judgment related to performing arts centers, and one with climate adaptation expertise given how close the Van Wezel is to Sarasota Bay.
The commission meets again on this topic on March 20.
