MANATEE – Residents of Rubonia in Manatee County celebrated their 30th Mardi Gras festival.
More than a hundred people lined the streets of Bayshore Road and 72nd St E to catch beads and other goodies. The parade made its way down 72nd street to the Rubonia Community Center where the party continued.
Event organizer Derrick Randall says the festival was brought back because of the significance it holds to the residents and community of Rubonia.
“At the end of the day the Mardi Gras started of the essence of coming together as community, and from the essence standpoint the Mardi Gras initiates a reflection of community for all and getting back to that, that’s what it’s all about,” said Randall.
After the parade guest were treated to food, music and beer. The D.L. Randall foundation looks to keep organizing the event for the foreseeable future.
