SARASOTA-MANATEE-CHARLOTTE COUNTIES (WSNN) – Heroes are helping heroes. The Suncoast Professional Firefighters & Paramedics Inc. are giving back to night shift workers.
They bought cookies from Bite me Cookies by Cindy to give to 11 hospitals and three dispatch centers from Manatee County to Charlotte County.
Treasurer, Johnny Rigney, says they wanted to show some love specifically to those night workers.
“They don’t get recognized quite as often,” Rigney said. “A lot of the day shift people, they get kudos, and they get people bringing stuff by cause it’s not weird hours. But the night shift people just don’t get that a lot of times because people are asleep when they’re working. So, we wanted to reach out to them and show them that we care too.”
Bite Me Cookies by Cindy is like an ice cream truck for cookies.
Owner, Cindy Unzicker, says the pandemic has allowed her to expand her business in ways she never thought she could.
She delivers to subdivisions, hospitals, and more.
Unzicker says she’s happy to be a part of the kindness the Suncoast is offering to others.
“I’ve encountered positivity that I’ve never expected,” Unzicker said. “People are really making the best of a bad situation. Some highlights are people dancing in the streets to the music in my van. People following us on bikes and scooters, and jogging trying to catch us as we’re going down their streets.”
So if you hear music in your neighborhood, it may lead you to some sweet treats.
