SARASOTA (SNN-TV) – Carson Spenn is a sophomore offensive and defensive lineman at Sarasota Christian, and has been a key part of the Blazers team, in their inaugural season in 8-man football.
Carson not only is relied upon heavily in pass-protection and pass rush, but he’s also viewed as a team leader, on the field and in the classroom. With a 4.0 GPA, Carson takes interest in the math and science involved in the fundamentals of technology, yet also loves battling on the gridiron each week. Carson balances the dedication to each evenly.
“It’s always been sort of melded together, I never really focus more on one thing than the other.” – Carson Spenn, OL/DL Sarasota Christian
With SCS sitting at 3-4 on the season, the team is growing week by week, and is seeing improvement in all areas. As for Carson, his growth over life has always been included a detail-oriented perspective. His father, Blazers head football coach and SCS Athletic Director, Jacob Spenn, says his son has always has the urge to know more, with a passion to learn.
“[He] loves the classroom, loves being challenged, just wants to figure stuff out. He was always inquisitive, always taking stuff apart as a little kid, even if it wasn’t broke. Taking stuff apart trying to put it back together and thos kinds of things.” – Jacob Spenn, Sarasota Christian Football HC
Success in the classroom is expected, and success on the gridiron the same, with Carson a veteran of the game in comparison to his SCS teammates. With Coach Spenn arriving in Sarasota with 20+ years of coaching experience, Carson also arrived with a seasoned presence.
“He’s got a lot more experience playing tackle football than the rest of these guys. That definitely is a factor. Guys are catching up in that area as they get some experience. He just plays with a physicality and moves well up front, doesn’t ever really come out of the game, and isn’t ever really tired.”
Being able to focus his passion for separate things has never been an issue for Carson. Having his hands in multiple pots is a relished idea, as Carson hopes other student-athletes take the same approach.
“Why stop the pursuit of greatness in one area, when you can pursue greatness in all areas.”
