MANATEE COUNTY (WSNN) – Manatee County Animal Services is reaching max capacity, so the shelter needs your help in giving these pets a furr-ever home.
More than 250 pets are at all three locations of Manatee County Animal Services.
“We have 78 kennels that are full and we have 80 total kennels,” MCAS Outreach and Event Specialist Hans Wohlgefahrt said. “So that leaves two empty kennels for all the pets that are coming into the shelter on a daily basis, and we’ve been averaging about 20 pets per day.”
Last month, this shelter accepted about 450 pets into its care. So, to encourage more adoptions, MCAS is offering a few incentives.
First, all pet adoption fees will be $15 through the end of June.
But, if you can’t adopt, you can foster. MCAS is in dire need of more volunteers. So, the shelter is providing all the supplies.
Wohlgefahrt says the reason they are seeing so many pets come in is because it’s kitten season and because of all the financial struggles pet owners are facing.
“I still think people are dealing with the financial and housing situation where they are starting to feel like they can’t take care of their pets,” Wohlgefahrt said. “We’ve heard that is a reason why a lot of people have been surrendering their pets. They don’t have a place where they can take their pet to go live.”
All the adoptions include spay or neuter, microchip and vaccinations. And all Manatee County residents are required to license their new pet for an additional $20.
You can adopt at the Palmetto Adoption Center and Shelter or at Manatee County Cat Town. Appointments are preferred.
If you can’t foster or adopt, you can always donate because MCAS is always in need of supplies.
