SARASOTA – More than five million dollars has been raised by men across the country committed to the concept, ‘Real men wear pink’
A good portion of that money is coming from men in magenta right here on the Suncoast.
“For the whole month of October, I’m in pink, all day every day,” said ‘Real men wear pink’ Sarasota- Manatee Ambassador, Scott Kessler.
‘Real men wear pink’ campaign Ambassadors across the nation are stepping up and using the power of wearing pink to raise funds and draw attention to the breast cancer fight.
“It’s my second year doing ‘Real men wear pink’ being an ambassador, my wife, Cherri Kessler, actually went through breast cancer about three years ago, she is now a survivor,” said Kessler.
Kessler has put on countless events each year to raise awareness and support the cause.
“What she went through, the doctors were all great, the radiologists, Dr. Fitch, he’s a real men wear pink this year, great, super nice people, everyone was so caring and helpful that’s really why I am involved, the process was accommodating and supportive,” said Kessler.
Seacoast Bank Market President, Neil McCurry is one of the top ten ambassadors nationally and on the Suncoast. To raise funds, and surpass his goal, McCurry put on several events with musical performers and raffles on several celebrity autographed musical items.
“There were items that people wanted, but the fact that the money was going to the American cancer society, something that might normally sell for a hundred dollars would sell for a thousand dollars of 25 hundred dollars, so we used the spirit of lets have some fun and enjoy some music and raise money for a great cause,” said Seacoast Bank Market President, Neil McCurry.
Mayor of the City of Bradenton, Gene Brown says being in the leadership position he is in motivates him to want to make a difference in his community. By raising funds he hopes to contribute to save more lives from breast cancer and encourage others to do the same.
“My little small fraction of money that we raise, may not help the whole project but if we all do that and everybody tries, one day there may be a complete cure for it and people don’t have to go through that suffering,” said Mayor of the City of Bradenton, Gene Brown.
The annual fundraiser for the American Cancer Society returns to Nathan Benderson Park with a 5K walk around the park this Saturday morning at 7:30.
