ORLANDO (SNN TV) – Futures leaders of Orlando and March for Our Lives host a vigil for Tyre Nichols on Saturday. The event was held to honor Nichols, who was brutally assaulted by Memphis police officers on January 7.

Nichols died three days later and all five officers have been charged with second-degree murder, and two additional Memphis police officers have also been relieved of duty.

Vigil speakers included congressman Maxwell Frost, state representative Anna Eskamani, and community members.

Attendees could be seen holding candles for Nichols and chanting his name while speakers spoke on addressing police brutality.

Since the release of the video footage, the Memphis Police Department’s SCORPION unit, whose members including the five fired offices, has been permanently deactivated.
