FLORIDA (SNN TV) – It could soon be illegal to drive in some left lanes in Florida.

According to WFLA, a bill recently filed in the Florida Senate would penalize drivers who “continuously” travel in the left-hand lane without the intent to pass.

The bill was filed by Republican Representative Jenna Persons-Mulicka of Fort Myers. You’d be prohibited from driving in the “furthermost left-hand lane” of roads, streets, and highways with at least two lanes and a speed limit of at least 65 miles per hour.

Exceptions would apply when preparing to exit.

There is a law already that requires drivers to move over “when being overtaken by a faster moving vehicle, unless the driver is preparing for a left-hand turn at an intersection.”

If passed and signed, the bill would take affect January 2024.
