SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. (SNN TV) – The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is increasing its budget by double digits.

The Herald-Tribune reports Sheriff Kurt Hoffman says the office is adding 24 full-time employees this upcoming fiscal year. The office also cites a hike in how much it has to pay to the Florida Retirement System, as well as inflationary increases to cars, tires, and vests.

It’ll be a 20.6% increase in its budget, the second year in a row its increased its budget by double digits.

The only office seeing a similar increase is the Sarasota Supervisor of Elections, which is expected to increase by over 19%. The elections office will have to start spending money on the 2024 general election during fiscal year 2023-2024 even though the election doesn’t begin until the following year.
