SARASOTA- Valentine’s Day marks a very special celebration here on the Suncoast. One of the oldest existing non-profits in the community, SunCoast Blood Bank is celebrating its 70th anniversary.

Today, SunCoast Blood Bank operates four donor centers, and more than 1,300 blood drives are held annually. Director of Community Development Jayne Giroux say just last year SunCoast Blood Bank was sending donations to Parkland; so just one donation can save a life.

“You’re saving not just the recipients life, you’re saving a family, and you’re keeping a family intact. So our message today is, have you saved a life today?” said Giroux.

The Sarasota City Council and Sarasota County Commission will honor SunCoast Blood Bank with proclamations, Thursday February 21.
