SARASOTA, Fla. (SNN) – Veterans Day is Saturday and a World War II Air Force veteran, who served for 12 years, said the day always brings back memories.

Some of the memories that are brought back to the Gene Baron, are of his friends.

Baron gave advice on how to reach his age.

“Don’t let anything bother you,” he said.

“It was quite an adventure,” Baron said.  “We traveled a lot. I had no fear of the war, just excitement over the war. I think all my friends are gone now, me being 102”.

Baron graduated from the University of Toledo in 1949. He became a pharmacist.

“Nice thing about my wife, the first time I saw her, I said, there is the girl I’m going to marry,” Baron said. “And she became a pharmacist. We had eight children.  Four boys and four girls. And they all turned out pretty nice,” said Baron.

Baron said his family is very close.

Back in the day, Baron played golf. He said he could drive the ball 280 yards, and that he even won a few championships.

Baron is a huge fan of University of Toledo football.
