PUNTA GORDA (SNN-TV) – A month after Wade Taylor stepped down as head coach of Charlotte High football coach, the Fightin‘ Tarpons have found their new leader.
Charlotte’s defensive coordinator, Cory Mentzer has been tabbed to take over as Charlotte head coach.
A 2010 graduate of Charlotte High, Mentzer spent the past seven years on the football coaching staff, the last two as defensive coordinator.
As a player, Mentzer was on the 2008 and 2009 teams that made it to the regional finals. An all-state honorable mention in football, Mentzer also participated in track and field for the Tarpons on their state championship team in 2010.
Mentzer is also a science teacher at Charlotte High.
