MIAMI (SNN-TV) – Derek Jeter is stepping down as the CEO of the Miami Marlins.
The Hall-of-Famer and New York Yankees icon announced the move today, just five years after joining the team’s front office.
Jeter also plans to sell his stake of the franchise.
In a statement today Jeter wrote, “The vision for the future of the franchise is different than the one I signed up to lead.”
The statement went on to say, “We had a vision five years ago to turn the Marlins franchise around, as as CEO, I have been proud to put my name and reputation on the line to make our plan a reality.”
The Marlins made the postseason just once during his tenure, a Wild Card spot in 2020.
