ST. PETERSBURG (SNN-TV) – World Series champion and Braves star, Freddie Freeman, is engulfed in rumors that he may be on his way out of Atlanta via free agency.
However, MLB Network’s Jon Heyman reports that the Rays not only showed interest in Freeman but made him an offer prior to commissioner Rob Manfred’s implementation of the current lockout.
The 2022 Rays are currently projected for an $83M payroll.
Freeman is one of the most high-profile free agents left unsigned.
Given how the Rays operate, a serious offer to Freeman, which would need to be in the neighborhood of 5-6 years and $150 million, would be pretty shocking.
Freeman hit .300 with 25 doubles, 31 homers, 83 RBI and 120 runs last season for the World Series champions.
